Amendment to a planning permit to increase patron numbers, extend opening hours, and add a liquor licence and on-farm accommodation

Working collaboratively with a trusted rural planner was the key to cost control and successful expansion for this Victorian landholder.

Tambo Farm’s owners needed an amended planning permit to expand their events and accommodation offer.

Linda Martin-Chew had assisted with the farm’s original permit application for a dwelling and function centre on 39.5ha in Darraweit Guim on the edge of Victoria’s Macedon Ranges.

About four years later the owners wanted to grow the business, offering the property as a bespoke rural wedding venue and establishing on-farm accommodation.

Owner Deb Smith worked collaboratively with Linda, managing the application process herself and seeking advice or assistance only when needed.

‘I like to support people to manage their applications themselves if they feel comfortable to do so, knowing I’m at the end of the phone or just an email away if needed,’ says Linda.

‘In this instance the Council planner indicated there might be a request for a traffic management report and an updated land management plan. The client and I discussed possible advocacy responses, which she implemented brilliantly, and these potentially expensive reports were ultimately not requested.’

Costs saved; and a scenic farm ready to offer new experiences!

Tambo Farm is a working farm, with cattle, sheep and friendly alpacas. The property offers luxury accommodation, animal experiences, and a rural setting for events and weddings.
